The Imagine-It Experience

For Ages 5 to 9

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation from which all forms of dance originate. Each Imagine-It ballet class consists entirely of technique and is partitioned into barre work, port de bras, center barre, adagio, and allegro. Children spend a portion of each class at the barre to acquire the strength, balance, and placement necessary to execute center work correctly.

Acrobatics

Acro Dance is a style of dance that combines dance technique with precise acrobatic elements. Properly achieved acrobatic skills can be added to a multitude of dance genres. Acro dance is meant to be softer than gymnastics with an emphasis on lengthening, control, and balance. New England Dance Academy is a Country leader in acrobatics! We have students who have gone on to professional acrobatic careers and Division 1 college scholarships.

Tap

In partnership with the Imagine-It curriculum, you can add a Tap element! Tap is rooted in African American history and has its own techniques and steps to learn. It’s an exciting rhythmic dance and is not only enjoyable to watch but to hear as well. Tap uses a wide variety of footwork and skills to produce rhythm and sound. The mind and body connection happens while students simultaneously learn the basics of tap and more intricate footwork. Tap teaches concentration through counting and listening. This study allows one’s ability to move quickly and easily while mastering steps such as shuffles, flaps, and spanks. Tap offers a variety of styles while using different patterns, rhythms, and beats.

Jazz

In partnership with the Imagine-It curriculum, you can add a jazz element! Jazz can be expressed in many forms from all eras, it originated from African dance styles. Its emphasis is on rhythm and technique. Jazz is an exciting and ever-evolving dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion, and life. Steeped in the rhythm of jazz music, an inspiring art form, jazz dance brings energy to all those who dance it. Classes explore body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet, and arms and encourage individual expression and the development of personal style. Ever evolving, jazz dance is taught with the music of today together with the classical jazz of yesterday and encompasses stretch, strength, and control as well as leaps, turns and jumps.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop features many forms and challenges dancers to find their own groove! Hip Hop has many individualized styles and new moves are continuously being invented by creative and innovative visionaries who mix the Old School Styles with current trends. Hip hop is a high-energy, engaging class using dance and fitness. This class incorporates skills from jazz-funk, breakdancing, and street dance. This involves level changes including freezes, isolations, and across-the-floor movements. The popularity of hip hop has evolved over the years and has continued to grow, encouraging dancers of all genres to become involved.

Lyrical Jazz

Lyrical is a contemporary dance form that has its roots in Jazz. The movement vocabulary and range of motion used are endless and creative and draw on each student's personal expression. Classes may include improvisation and creative exercises. This hour focuses on teaching dancers about creative expression. Our teachers achieve this by instructing students to tell the story of a piece of music through their movements. NEDA recommends this class be taken in conjunction with a Ballet and Jazz class.

Musical Theater

Musical Theatre will focus on learning proper dance techniques while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.
